This Sunday, November 5th, graduate student Julie Davies (soprano) will return to her alma mater, the University of Oklahoma, where she will give a masterclass with graduate voice students in Pitman Hall on the OU School of Music campus. On Monday, November 6th, she will perform in a ticketed concert of Strauss’ “Four Last Songs” with the OU Symphony Orchestra in Sharp Hall at the School of Music, and on November 9th, she will sing a selection of songs by Paul Hermann (concentration camp victim), as part of a lecture recital with the Judaic Studies Department at OU. An in-demand artist, Ms. Davies recently performed popular arias and duets by Verdi, Puccini, and Bizet with Maestro José Maria Moreno Valiente and the Q.Roo Symphony in Cancún, Mexico. Ms. Davies was joined on stage by mezzo-soprano Maria Luisa Corbacho, tenor Joel Montero, and baritone James Cleverton.
Ms. Davies began her international opera career in Darmstadt, Germany in 2011, where she was highly praised for her performances of the title roles in La Traviata, La Sonnambula, and Lucia di Lammermoor. Other roles Ms. Davies performed with to great acclaim include: Norina in Don Pasquale, Nedda in I Pagliacci, and Gerhilde in Die Walküre, as well as all four heroines in The Tales of Hoffmann. Most recently, Ms. Davies performed Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with the Opéra National de Paris (2015), Marzelline in Fidelio with Rio de Janeiro (2015), and the Junges Mädchen in the co-production of Schoenberg’s Moses und Aron (which was televised world-wide in 2015) with Paris and Madrid (2016). She will sing the role of Gerhilde in Wagner’s “Ring” in Madrid in the 2019-20 season. Ms. Davies is a three-time alumna of the Music Academy of the West, and was one of two singers chosen to dedicate the Marilyn Horne Museum on May 6, 2017. Ms. Davies toured Germany and Austria in recital this summer in promotion of her premiere song album which was released in June 2017. Ms. Davies is currently a second year DMA student at UCSB, studying with Dr. Linda Di Fiore.
