Vlad Vizireanu, conductor of the UCSB Chamber Orchestra, has been selected as one of 24 candidates (from 566 worldwide applicants) to participate in the Malko Competition in Copenhagen with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in April 2018. Participants must advance through three rounds of the competition to earn one of three finalist spots in the finale concert, where 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded. Mr. Vizireanu recently made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Hall as one of three finalists in the 2016 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, and was also the Second Prize winner in the 11th International Cadaqués Conducting Competition in 2014. He has studied with David Zinman, Kurt Masur, and Bernhard Haitink at the Lucerne Easter Festivals and received the prestigious Chautauqua Conducting Fellowship in 2013.
