Professor Steven Gross retired after 24 years as Principal Horn of Opera Santa Barbara at the end of the recent production of The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini. Artistic Director Kostis Protopapas presented Dr. Gross with a plaque honoring his service at a reception following the final performance. Past reviews include the Santa Barbara News-Press, after a production of Bizet's Carmen: "The winds are solid, the French horns spectacular." He has held similar positions in opera orchestras since 1973, for professional companies in Detroit, Washington, D.C., Canary Islands (Spain), Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Santa Fe.
