Graduate vocalist Julie Davies (soprano) will travel to Cancún, Mexico later this month to perform as a featured soloist with Sinfónica De Quintana Roo. Ms. Davies will join a roster of internationally acclaimed vocalists, including mezzo-soprano Maria Luisa Corbacho (Spain), tenor Joel Montero (Mexico), and baritone Olafur Sigurdarson (Iceland). Led by Artistic Director José Maria Moreno Valiente (Spain), performances will run from June 14-16.
Ms. Davies is completing her second year as a DMA student at UCSB, where she studies with Dr. Linda Di Fiore. An international soprano, she is highly praised for her performances of the title roles in La Traviata, La Sonnambula, and Lucia di Lammermoor. Most recently, Ms. Davies performed Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with the Opéra National de Paris (2015), Marzelline in Fidelio with Rio de Janeiro (2015), and the Junges Mädchen in the co-production of Schoenberg’s Moses und Aron (released on film and televised world-wide in 2015) with Paris and Madrid Operas (2016). She will sing the role of Gerhilde in Wagner’s Die Walküre in Madrid in the 2019-20 season. Ms. Davies is a three-time alumna and vocal soloist of the Music Academy of the West, and was one of two singers chosen to dedicate the Marilyn Horne Museum, opened on May 6, 2017 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Ms. Davies is frequently invited to sing throughout the United States and Europe.
