UCSB Jazz Ensemble
The UCSB Jazz Ensemble will present a special benefit concert for the Loren Toder Memorial Scholarship fund and the Myocarditis Foundation on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 1-4 pm at SOhO Restaurant and Music Club. The Jazz Ensemble will be joined by special guests Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist) and Keaton Simons (independent recording artist), family and childhood friends of Loren Toder.
Loren Toder was a 20-year-old bassist and music student in UCSB’s Bachelor of Music Degree program when he passed away in 1999 due to complications of an undiagnosed viral heart infection, also known as Myocarditis. The Toder Memorial Scholarship honors a UCSB student active in music performance ensembles who embodies the same spirit of curiosity, humanity, passion, and versatility as Loren did. The band will be joined by two of Loren’s childhood friends, the above mentioned Josh Klinghoffer and Keaton Simons, as well as members of the Toder family, past Toder Scholarship winners, and UCSB Jazz Ensemble Alumni.
Proceeds to benefit The Loren Toder Memorial Scholarship Fund, The Myocarditis Foundation of America, and the UCSB Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jon Nathan (now in his 23rd year as ensemble director).
