Bio

Pianist Leslie Cain is currently pursuing her DMA at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studies with Paul Berkowitz and is a fellowship member of the Young Artist Piano Quartet.  She completed her undergraduate degree at the Manhattan School of Music as a student of André-Michel Schub. Leslie also holds a BA in Philosophy from California State University, Los Angeles, from which she graduated at age 18 as part of the school's Early Entrance Program.

Leslie's numerous recognitions include first prizes in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the MTNA Senior Piano Competition, and the Cypress College Piano Competition. In the spring of 2015, Leslie performed by invitation of the Weill Music Institute as part of the inaugural season of the Resnick Education Wing at Carnegie Hall, in an all-Debussy master class conducted by Richard Goode. She has also enjoyed lessons with Jeremy Denk, Gilbert Kalish, Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, the Kronos Quartet, and the Danish String Quartet.

Leslie's academic focus is the repertoire and cultural philosophy of fin de siècle France, especially the music and life of Maurice Ravel. Her current extracurricular obsessions include barre fitness, fashion magazines, Saab ownership, and trying to become more "outdoorsy."
