A variety of financial assistance, in the form of awards and scholarships are offered by the Department of Music and are available to talented and academically qualified students.
Prospective undergraduate BM performance students automatically apply for the Excellence-at-Entrance Award, typically a $1000 award for the first year, based on their undergraduate Entrance Audition. Students who receive the award will be notified prior to their enrollment at UCSB.
Continuing undergraduate music majors may apply for an Opus One scholarship each year. Typical awards range from $500 - $1000 per year and based on strong academic record, and strong record of participation in Music Department activities.
Other scholarships may be available by audition within individual studios and performance areas once at UCSB. Students will be notified of these opportunities through their studion teachers as they arise.
Information on a variety of scholarships, grant loans, work-study opportunities, and other financial assistance may be obtained by contacting the UCSB Financial Aid Office; phone (805) 893-2432. Applications for aid require the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available from the UCSB Financial Aid Office, as well as from high schools and colleges. The FAFSA, when submitted before the current deadline, entitles qualified students to be considered for awards from the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), the UCSB Financial Aid Office, and the federal Pell Grant Program. Additionally, to be considered for a new Cal Grant from CSAC, students must submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form to CSAC by their deadline.
