Jared Eben

Graduate pianist Jared Eben will present a doctoral recital on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. The program will feature works by Xavier Montsalvatge, John Adams, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Jared Eben, with performances by mezzo-soprano Alexandria Jackson, cellist Thomas Lin, and pianist Pinshu Yu. 

About the Artist

Born and raised in Fresno, California, pianist and composer Jared Eben has become a fixture in the music community of California's Central Valley, appearing in upwards of sixty performances a year in a variety of music settings ranging from solo, instrumental chamber music, voice recitals, and musical theater. He was a former member of the Adjunct Faculty at California State University Stanislaus where he taught class piano, and also performed with many talented music students and faculty members while serving as the department staff accompanist.
Mr. Eben attended Chapman University where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. Under the direction of Karen Knecht, he was the South Section Winner of the Music Teachers’ Association of California 2009 Piano Competition. He also began studying composition under Dr. Jeffrey Holmes and Dr. Vera Ivanova and earned the Music Theory Award. Mr. Eben began studying collaborative piano with Louise Thomas, and Chamber Music with Grace Fong. At the completion of his studies at Chapman University, he earned the Outstanding Keyboard Award.
Mr. Eben holds a master’s degree in Piano Performance from New York University, where he earned the Steinhardt Scholarship and studied under Eduardus Halim. While attending New York University, Mr. Eben served as adjunct instructor, teaching keyboard harmony and group piano classes, as well as elective private piano lessons.
Mr. Eben currently lives in Santa Barbara, California where he is working on his Doctorate in Collaborative Piano at the University of California, Santa Barbara under the direction of Robert Koenig.
