As part of UCSB Ethnomusicology Forum, Mhoze Chikowero (Associate Professor of History, UC Santa Barbara) will discuss his work on Zimbabwe's Chimurenga music on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 3:30-5 pm in Seminar Room 2406 in the Music Library. This will include a brief musical demonstration by Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa. Chimurenga is a genre of African self-liberation music, composed to articulate Zimbabwe's independence struggles against colonialism particularly in the 1960s-70s but with deep roots in the country's traditions.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Music, Ethnomusicology Program, the MultiCultural Center, the Department of History and the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies.
