Chika Nobumori
Graduate pianist Chika Nobumori will present a Doctor of Musical Arts recital on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 6 pm PDT as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music’s YouTube channel. The program will include works by Joseph Haydn, Johannes Brahms, and Franz Schubert. Nobumori is a student of UC Santa Barbara Professor Paul Berkowitz.

About the Artist

Chika Nobumori is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she studies with pianist Paul Berkowitz and teaches as a graduate teaching assistant. She began her piano studies in Ibaraki, Japan with Miwako Shimizu. Upon moving to the US, she continued studying with Edward Francis, Ryoko Sone, among others. She has a B.S. in applied mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Further, she completed the Applied Music program at Santa Monica College, a two-year program studying with Nora Chiang-Wrobel, while simultaneously working in biochemistry research at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. She has an M.M. in piano performance from California State University, Northridge where she studied with Dr. Dmitry Rachmanov. Chika enjoys teaching and has taught piano in the greater Los Angeles area including Pasadena, South Bay, and Ventura. In 2020, she participated in a masterclass with Yefim Bronfman through UCSB Arts & Lectures.
