Just like the earth, our lives ebb and flow with inevitable change. The UCSB Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Nicole Lamartine, presents a virtual program that illuminates the human experience through change and highlights collaborations with Santa Barbara Creative Education and ASL expert Eric Brody. The virtual program will be streamed as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music's YouTube channel on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 6 pm PDT.

The choir pre-recorded tracks that were engineered to create the sound of the choir. We will present “Earth Song” by Frank Ticheli, “Peace Flows Into Me” by Jake Runestad, “When the Earth Stands Still” by Don MacDonald, and “The Tide Rises” by Kirby Shaw.

A highlight of the program is a special collaborative recorded performance of “I Am The Earth” by Glyn Lehmann with the students of Santa Barbara Creative Education. Joseph Natale, director of the school, says: “We are a collaborative of professionals with experience as teachers and tutors in academics, business, social enterprise, civic engagement, music, art, theater, athletics, and media. We offer support to families in the Santa Barbara Area as a resource center for tutoring in academics and the arts.” In addition, the words of the song in sign language were taught to the students by ASL expert Eric Brody who teaches for UCSB Recreation.

A virtual program is a collaborative effort. Special thanks goes to our UCSB Music Production Team who engineered our sound tracks and created the overall video. David Torres, DMA student in Choral Conducting created the background videos for each piece. Tony Grimes recorded the video and audio for the students at Santa Barbara Creative Education.
