POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Music at UC Santa Barbara seeks to appoint a part-time, non-tenure track lecturer position at the University of California Santa Barbara beginning Winter 2022 to teach Son Jarocho. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Must have 1 year of professional experience in the jarana, requinto, and versada.
  • Must have 1 year of experience teaching Son Jarocho.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Ability to articulate areas of research interest related to Son Jarocho courses and to other ethnomusicology courses.

The Department of Music is currently hiring motivated students to be on the event production team! Please see the short description below. The Music Department production team is responsible for stage and performance support, either as an event usher or performance technician. Some experience is desirable but we are willing to train dependable and conscientious team players.

This job entails:

  • In the technician role: setting up and striking productions, supporting all aspects of audio, lighting, staging, video, and podium operations for Music Department events
  • In the usher role: welcoming guests, distributing programs, setting up signage and promotional items, taking tickets, facilitating a professional and top-notch concert-going experience, ensuring that performance spaces and seating areas are clean and ready for performance
