Ensemble Information
The Young Artists Piano Quartet was founded in 2014 at UCSB as a graduate scholarship quartet. The YAPQ has played in master classes for Lynn Harrell, the Calder Quartet, the Kronos Quartet, and the Danish String Quartet. Members of the quartet participate in a rigorous weekly coaching schedule with faculty from the string, keyboard, and collaborative piano programs, and present several performances per quarter.
Scholarships: all in-state tuition/fees, plus $5000 stipend
Degrees: Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts
Quartet members receive tuition and fees (in-state), plus a stipend.
Application Procedure
- If already a registered graduate student in strings (MM or DMA), please contact Professor Jennifer Kloetzel regarding your interest.
- The pre-screening requirement of the application to the MM, MM/DMA, or DMA in strings has a Young Artist component.
The quartet coaches with all members of the Strings Faculty, rotating on a quarterly basis. A complete quartet recital is given each year and participants are expected to perform in masterclasses, special events, and serve as ambassadors of the Department of Music.
Each quartet member will have private study with the appropriate faculty member and is expected to give at least one solo recital per academic year.
