On this page, you will find information and links to piano policies and requests for piano use and service. There are 85 pianos here at the Department of Music. The performance pianos include a Hamburg Steinway D 9’ concert grand piano in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall, a New York Steinway D 9’ grand piano in Karl Geiringer Hall, and a New York Steinway B 7’ grand piano in Room 1145. All the pianos are tuned and maintained on a priority rotation. Please see the UCSB Department of Music Piano Policy regarding use of the pianos. Frequently Asked Questions

There are 16 practice rooms upstairs in the north wing of the music building and all of those rooms have upright pianos. In the basement, there are six grand piano practice rooms and eight upright piano rooms.

The practice rooms are available only to currently enrolled music students. The grand piano rooms are reserved for piano majors only. Rooms are assigned to students based on the area of study within the Department of Music program. For more information see the Practice Rooms page. The Department of Music has two harpsichords, a practice pipe organ, a concert Flentrop tracker pipe organ, and a celesta. These are available for use by special request and proper authorization only.
