The Music Library, located at the western end of the Music Building complex, houses UCSB Library's collections related to music. The entrance is on the 1st Floor, but the collections and library services are located on the 2nd Floor. The Music Library collection emphasizes music of the Western art traditions and diverse world cultures, particularly the vernacular and traditional music of Eastern Europe, India, the Middle East, and the United States. Formats include books, journals, scores, electronic databases, sound recordings, videos, and microforms. The collection’s primary purpose is to support instruction and research for the Department of Music. In addition, it supports interdisciplinary studies centering on music in other departments and units throughout the university. The Music Library's collection contains over 120,000 items, including over 30,000 LPs and over 12,000 CDs. The record and CD collections are serviced by listening stations with specialized equipment. Collection information can be accessed via the local UCSB Library catalog or via Melvyl, which lists the cataloged collections of all UC libraries. Daily deliveries of items requested through interlibrary loan from other UC campuses such as UCLA and Berkeley enhance the considerable on-site resources.
