Bio

Victor’s gift of directing began at the early age of five. His mother, Ezell Bell tells the story of him standing in the pews at Greater New Morning Star Baptist Church directing the choir as they sang. His official first directing experience came at age 7, when he accompanied his older sisters to their choir rehearsal. They were in the youth & Young Adult Choir. They were preparing for youth day when the director asked who would be willing to direct the song as she was the soloist for the song. Sitting in the audience Victor was moved to raise his hand. He has been directing choirs ever since that day.

Victor’s unique gifts of writing, teaching and directing makes him stand out with respect among his peers. His gift has allowed him to move beyond the church walls and into many fields such as TV and film. He served as a music consultant for Stan Lathan (TV director, Sanford & Son, Fresh Prince) for such TV shows as The Steve Harvey Show (whenever Steve appeared to be playing the piano it was Victor behind the scenes playing), Cedric The Entertainer, The Bernie Mac Show, Method & Red, All of Us, Key & Peele, The Soul Man featuring Cedric the Entertainer & Niecy Nash, Bar Rescue, and most recently ABC network show, American Housewife. He was recently honored and given an award this past summer as “Most Intentional Choral Choirmaster” from the “CHOIRMASTER COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE ACADEMY”

He also served as Director of Radio Promotions for Gospo Centric Records, which was home to Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, Stephanie Mills and many others. He was also music guest and director for the wedding of actor Blair Underwood. He’s a tenured professor in the music department of UC Santa Barbara since 1998.

Victor Bell & Halel was featured on the new Oxygen network hit show, Fix My Choir, with Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child) and renowned gospel star Deitrick Haddon. They were received with rave reviews and won first place in the choir competition. Victor penned a song during that show entitled I’ll Bless Him. With the help of Gospel industry veteran Vicki Mack Lataillade it received rave reviews in radio and sparked a radio promotions tour in several states.

Victor is the founder and Senior Pastor/Teacher of Praise House Worship Center in Los Angeles CA. He is married to Ronette Bell, and together they have three beautiful children.
