Bio

Dr. Helena von Rueden is the current Assistant Professor of Fine Arts and Director of Choral Activities at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Dr. von Rueden teaches a variety of courses including American Music and Music Fundamentals, while also directing the Men’s Chorus and supervising the American Acoustic Music Series.  She sings oratorio with such organizations as the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale and Winston-Salem Symphony. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Masters in Vocal Performance and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting in 2013. Her doctoral research explored the use of figurative language and narrative to influence vocal technique, musical expressivity, and group collaboration in collegiate choral rehearsals.
