This program offers high-quality performance instruction from a supportive faculty in the context of a distinguished research university. UC Santa Barbara alumni are found in the ranks of professional musicians and collegiate faculty. Faculty members are drawn from distinguished musicians based in the Santa Barbara and Los Angeles areas. Regular large ensemble opportunities are available in the Chamber Orchestra, the Wind Ensemble, and the Ensemble for Contemporary Music, which features internationally known composers and performers. Scholarship ensembles include the Nuñes Scholarship Woodwind Quintet and Maurice Faulkner Brass Quintet. Additional performance opportunities are available through the Chamber Music Program, and ensembles from the Clarinet, Flute, Horn, and Percussion studios. The campus is the site of regular master classes by distinguished visiting artists, and the scene of nationally prominent events such as the American Horn Competition and WHOLE FLUTES®. The Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion program offers Bachelor of Music (BM) and Master of Music (MM) degrees with the exception of Horn, which offers a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA).
