Max Jack

Bio

Max is a doctoral student in Ethnomusicology at UCSB. He received his BA in Music from Union College and his MA in Ethnomusicology from Tufts University. His primary academic interests center around music, sport, ritual, and conflict. He conducted his MA fieldwork in Dublin, Ireland, hanging out and singing with "ultra" supporters at Shamrock Rovers Football Club matches. Max also won the James T Koetting Prize for Most Outstanding Graduate Student Paper at NECSEM for his work on the SRFC Ultras. Having previously TA'ed History of Rock and Roll and History of Blues, he also enjoys discussing and playing popular music.
